Let’s hit 30k by the end of this week!

Keep going.

i just want to make a note that a lot of guys and girls literally DO NOT KNOW WHAT RAPE REALLY IS and find it acceptable in circumstances as shitty as “he spent a lot of money on her” and that’s literally unnacceptable. if you think this will be a waste of taxpayer money or s/t look at this and tell me that public education and outreach doesn’t work.
so basically this is REALLY important and would genuinely make a HUGE impact on rape stats.

Just so that i’m clear what are we actually calling rape? Are we talking about someone “giving in”  or are we talking about completely “forced” perhaps in a violent way?  I think some people consider some acts rape, that plain just aren’t. So i’m seeking clarification on the points themselves.

Gil, any act performed without explicit consent is rape. Rape is defined as any non-consensual sexual act. If someone is in a state of intoxication or unconsciousness, or is underage and therefore legally unable to give consent, any sexual act performed on that person is considered rape. It doesn’t necessarily have to be violent, and in fact it often is not. It’s often perpetrated by people whom the victim knows. I think a lot of people nowadays have gotten so used to the idea that just because someone doesn’t outright say “no,” that means it’s okay. And that’s not always the case. An often overlooked demographic, which many people choose to believe doesn’t exist, is the victims of spousal rape. It doesn’t matter if you’ve been in a committed relationship for any period of time, it doesn’t matter if you’re married or not. That doesn’t mean you’ve “earned it” or you “deserve it.” That’s bullshit. “Yes” means yes, anything other than “yes” or some variation on the affirmative should be considered to mean “no.”

Audrey is right on the mark. And even when a woman gives in, it doesn’t mean it is consensual. Some women feel as if they are unable to stop the rape, feel as if they deserve it or are obligated to do it, even if they do not want to. That counts as rape, as well.

Just as an add-on, even when the woman doesn’t say no or complies (unwillingly) it can be because rape is largely a method for domination and power over somebody. One of its effects is making the other person feel weak and worthless so there is less struggle.
